Woven in Kashan in the mid twentieth century, Mehrab-e-Gul presents a refined interpretation of the prayer niche or mihrab, a classical motif symbolizing the threshold between the temporal and the divine. At its center rises a stylized cypress and floral tree, emerging from a vase,a metaphor for spiritual growth and eternal renewal.
The carmine red field is framed by lush green spandrels and floral borders of ivory and turquoise, forming a harmonious interplay of color and form. The purity of its design, coupled with the warmth of its woolen pile, reflects Kashan’s mastery of devotional weaving, where beauty becomes a form of worship.
