Arak Indigo
Hand knotted in fine wool, Arak Indigo takes its name from the Persian city of Arak, once known as Sultanabad, where some of the most renowned workshop carpets of the 19th century were woven. When Ziegler & Co. began producing rugs there for European clients, they softened the traditional Persian colors and opened up the layouts to suit Western interiors. This piece goes the other way. Its deep indigo ground with accents of rust, ivory, and soft gold recalls the richer palettes used in Persia before that shift. The design keeps the large floral and vine structure of classic Sultanabad rugs but lets the color lead, giving it both history and a modern edge.
Design note: Inspired by late 19th century Sultanabad workshop rugs from Arak, reinterpreting the Ziegler aesthetic through deeper tones and a more traditional Persian palette.
