Charcoal Lattice
Hand knotted in a blend of fine wool and silk, Charcoal Lattice reinterprets the palmette and trellis designs of Safavid Persia. The lattice, first seen in 17th century Tabriz and Kashan court carpets, represented the geometry of Persian gardens, an ordered reflection of paradise.
Here, that history is seen through a modern process. The rug has been overdyed in soft layers of smoke and silver, washing out color contrast and leaving only a quiet trace of the original design. What remains is structure and movement, the faint rhythm of vines and blossoms woven into texture.
The silk threads catch light against the matte wool, giving the surface a gentle luminosity. The palette moves between ash, pewter, and warm grey, changing slightly with the light. Calm, balanced, and tactile, it feels like a memory preserved in weave.
Design note: Hand knotted in wool and silk, this overdyed rug draws from Safavid palmette and trellis patterns of Tabriz and Kashan, reimagined in a tonal grey palette that highlights texture and structure over ornament.
